Safe and Sound

Just a note to say we arrived in San Diego this afternoon. At times it has felt a bit like a National Lampoons vacation - locking our keys in the van, clearing out a section of a restaurant at the Bright Angel Lodge in Grand Canyon because of a disgruntled one-year-old, and nearly running out of gas coming over a very hot, very desolate portion of the Arizona desert, (Mom, it was that moon part you were talking about.) but we are here. Both kids are sleeping and Mike and I are mindlessly watching one of the Star Wars movies and looking out on a beautiful San Diego night sky line. There are fantastic city sounds below. I told Mike earlier that tonight was one of the most fun nights of my life - we ate a quick supper (leftovers thanks to Allyn and John!), then walked five blocks to the grocery, filled my new birthday llbean back with a few essentials and walked back - kids loving the ride, petting dogs along the way, Olivia flipping from the front of the buggy to the back because she wouldn't listen to her dad who told her to sit down already (not so much a fun part of the night, but memorable nonetheless). I don't know what I loved so much about it all - all of us together, being out of the durn van, the 70 degree temperature, all the interesting people to watch, the fact that the kids seemed to love it as much as I did, walking to the grocery, riding an elevator to our new, temporary home (Olivia is in heaven), resting in God's sweet provision and protection. Whatever it was, here we are safe and sound and looking forward to serving the Lord here this summer.

P.S. Sorry about the false promise to post pictures the next day (in the last post). I should never promise anything on a blog. More pics soon - maybe tomorrow. Thanks for all your prayers for safe travel.
